Anchorsong: Japan goes to Bollywood

The latest in Peter Culshaw’s occasional updates in the best of new global music features unreleased tracks from forthcoming autumn releases and re-releases dug up by eccentric crate-diggers. Even more lunatically eclectic than usual we have some Somalian funk, Bollywood-meets-Sakamoto (Anchorsong - main picture), French Tango and Turkish psychedelia. New music unleashed includes fabulous tracks of new albums by Susheela Raman’s gamelan fusion Ghost Gamelan (appearing at the South Bank September 21), Anglo-Brazilian star Nina Miranda’s trip-hop update with Daxuva, and new Brazilian groove masters Bixiga 70. Hats off to adventurous record companies like Glitterbeat, Mr Bongo, Naïve, Analog Africa,TruThoughts, Six Degrees, Rough Guides and others whose sheer enthusiasm remains an inspiration.

Next show: Brexit music for people who really hate foreign cultures…..

A breathless half-hour takes in screaming, stop-start song structures and the odd hint of reflectiveness
The American singer's eighth album is rife with downtempo ruminations on love
A thrilling blast of deep rooted culture and devout belief
Two decades on from Patti Smith and the original pink sheep, the anniversary edition proved again that Latitude's real headliners are rarely at the top of the bill
From Korean bluegrass to gigantic Ugandan xylophones, the global diversity of musical life is here
A championing, but also perhaps a dilution, of South African innovation
The return of a punk-era landmark of British art rock
With a danceable rock feel she displays her burgeoning creativity
The garage rockers don't do themselves justice on new album
