Irek Mukhamedov dances again in London
Former Royal Ballet leading star and Bolshoi hero Irek Mukhamedov is coming out of retirement to perform in Peter Schaufuss's Tchaikovsky Trilogy at the London Coliseum 23-28 July. He will be playing the roles of Rothbart in Swan Lake, the Queen’s husband and Aurora’s and Carabosse’s father in Sleeping Beauty, Clara’s Father and Sugar Plum Fairy’s Cavalier in The Nutcracker, in all performances of all three ballets, which have been remade in new versions by Schaufuss, former world star and ex director of English National Ballet and Royal Danish Ballet.
Following his retirement from the Royal Ballet stage in 2004, Mukhamedov, now 52, has been coaching and directing the National Ballet of Greece and Slovenia's Ballet Ljubliana.
New Danish star 22-year-old Alan Lendorf is the featured lead in the three ballets, which seek to mine Tchaikovsky's psychological development in a biographical approach to the three ballet stories.
